"Warming up"

2018, paraffin, 50x40 cm

This sculpture explores the pressing issue of global warming through a thought-provoking visual metaphor. A paraffin globe, representing Earth, is adorned with miniature oil rigs crafted from the same material. As the sculpture warms, these delicate structures begin to melt, symbolizing the destructive impact of fossil fuel consumption on our planet.

Concept

The piece draws attention to the harmful effects of burning oil and coal on our atmosphere. By using paraffin, a petroleum byproduct, to create both the Earth and the oil rigs, the artist highlights the interconnectedness of our energy choices and their environmental consequences.

Symbolism

Melting Globe: The slowly melting paraffin sphere serves as a poignant reminder of rising global temperatures and their potential to reshape our world.Oil Rigs: These structures, also made of paraffin, represent the fossil fuel industry's role in climate change. As they melt, they mirror the real-world scenario of coastal areas and islands facing submersion due to rising sea levels.

"Accumulation"

2019, plastic, 50x20 cm

In every household, there's a plastic bag filled with other plastic bags. This convenient packaging method, while useful to us, accumulates over time to enormous proportions before eventually ending up in landfills. For 200-300 years, these bags will preserve our memory, floating in water or fluttering in tree branches. If giving up plastic is too difficult, I propose an alternative method of plastic utilization - transforming trash into art installations. This piece embodies the gradual buildup of plastic waste in our lives, serving as a visual reminder of our consumption habits. By repurposing discarded plastic bags into an artistic form, "Accumulation" challenges viewers to reconsider their relationship with single-use plastics and contemplate more sustainable practices. The layered, textured surface of the work mimics the way plastic accumulates in our environment, creating a tactile representation of an often overlooked issue. Through this transformation of mundane, disposable objects into art, I aim to spark dialogue about waste, consumerism, and our collective responsibility to the planet.
